During their travels they read stories by their father about their grandfather who sold watermelons. The characters are endearing and the stories are very entertaining as is the travel adventure."

The book is set in the Dakota Territory, although I am not certain if it is in the area of North or South Dakota. I would guess North Dakota based on the description, but I guess it doesn't matter. Overall, this is a very good book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

"While there are part of this book that are just heartbreaking in its retelling of the blizzard that plagued these immigrant families, there are other parts that just drag on. If the book had concentrated more on the facts about the harsh realities that were in store for these families on the unforgiving frontier it may have held my attention more. However there is only so much weather forecasting that one can handle reading before it becomes mind numbingly boring."
